Smittybilts new Overlander Tent offers the versatility of being able to camp anywhere your truck or Jeep can take you. One man operation allows it to fold out in seconds to full height so you dont have to mess around with tent pegs and ropes like normal ground tents. Fully waterproof so you dont have to worry about being caught out in the rain. The Overlander tent offers all the features you need for the best camping experience.
I got a 1st Gen Rtt by smittybilt as a starter. My girlfriend and I wanted to start camping and start making new memories. We both work a lot, so our schedules don’t always allow us free time. This tent was inexpensive and very easy to put together. We absolutely love this tent. It’s extremely comfortable and very spacious inside. It’s held up very well after 3 trips. Im not sure how it’ll handle in extreme weather, but it handles just fine in Southern California. I’ve only used it for summer trips, but I do have fall/winter trips planned and I don’t doubt it’ll keep us safe and dry.
Thing is huge. Could litterally sleep my whole family if we wanted to. Well constructed. cant wait to start using it
I admittedly added some foam but its like having a full size bed wherever you go. It does take 15 minutes to setup and put away but if you can park there you can camp and i sleep like im at home in it.
Bought this three years ago and we've used it pretty thoroughly, though still not as much as I'd like. Construction is solid, which pleasantly surprised me given the much lower price compared to the better known RTT brands. The only corner I feel they cut was the mattress, the foam for which pretty much deflated within the first year. Called 4WP and they exchanged the mattress for free even though mfgs warranty was over. Couldn't be happier. Even with the new mattress it was a bit too thin. Bought an additional 2" king size foam mattress on amazon and put it on top of the stock mattress. Now we have 4" of foam to sleep on and it's heavenly, if a bit hot during the warmer months. My biggest advice if you're a first-time RTT buyer: 1. Rig up some sort of early warning system to remind you the tent is on the roof so you don't destroy it driving into a parking garage. 2. Always let it air out before you store it. Moisture will mold it up VERY QUICKLY, but if you're diligent about airing it out, it'll keep that new tent smell for a long time.
Very strong and stable. Setup instructions are a bit vague, but can be figured out. Highly recommend setting up at home first, to figure it all out. Being able to open the top and having a view of the night sky is amazing.
Perfect Overland Tent Topper for your Honda Pioneer. Craftsmanship was well thought out and heavy duty material. All hardware came with to mount on your ride. The added weight didn't affect the ride in off cantering positions nor can tell its up there. Do have to keep a mindful of low hanging branches since it adds 14 inches to the height of the ride. Comes with a 1-1\2" bed pad we added another 1-1/2" with it and its very comfortable. The telescoping ladder was a super upgrade from the original design and makes the entire tent platform very stable. Only draw back is the tent will sweat and in the morning you will beed to open all the windows and dry it out which doesn't take very long . First trip out was a 3 day trail ride and having this made is so much better than having to drive all the way back to camp or crawl into the back of a small suv. It opens up so many new possibilities with camping spots then ever before. Were very happy with the purchase. Good job smittybilt.
Though this RTT is still new to me, I am so darn impressed with the overall quality. It deploys very quickly and easily. Once inside it is extremely spacious. Packing up takes a little more effort but not too bad, just can’t be in a hurry. I have this mounted on. Smittybilt rack on my 2 door JK. It will affect your fuel mileage so just be aware. Not to worry though as you won’t be wasting money on motel rooms.
Update: I have completed a 4 month overland trip plus lots of weekend trips with this tent being my main habitat. Overall it has held up really well, showing the build quality and attention to detail. Im really impressed considering the price point. Major downside is the rain fly design. The way its setup, it will catch wind and direct it right in between the cover and tent. So any gusts greater than 20mph and the whole tent shakes and rattles which makes sleeping impossible. Decided to switch from my Big Agnes standard tent to an RTT when overlanding with hopes that setup would be easier and i could camp on rougher terrain comfortably. Installation: extremely easy, the versatile mounting options will bolt onto pretty much anything with a little bit of creativity. I have mine mounted on the Smittybilt Defender rack. It took about 2 hours by myself, with help it would be even faster. Setup and use: Setup is fairly simple, alone it takes about 10 minutes since you have to run back and forth pulling straps and velcro. Once everything is released its easy to pull on the ladder and flip the tent open. Then another 5 minutes to put in some of rods to vent. Its tricky to install the rain fly on tall vehicles, you can do it from the inside but it takes time and isn't fun when raining. Once setup the tent is surprisingly stable. I was a little concerned the hinge that folds the tent in half would have some flex and bother me but absolutely nothing. I installed an extra 2" foam padding (Queen size stuff fits well) and its pretty comfortable.
Q: Do you have to have a rack on your vehicles roof or can it direct mount on a 2020 Jeep JL 4 door? Answer this question
A: I believe it can be mounted on you jeep there. I have it mounted on a roof rack.

A: You'll need a rack. I believe they make some models that integrate into your jeep model. Look at Rhino-Rack Vortex SG 2 Bar. Seems to be a good priced option.

A: Hello, A roof rack or a bed rack is required. Often with the JL's people choose a bed rack for overlanding. Thanks for checking us out.

Q: cant i mount the tent and open it from front to back on my roof to the bed of my truck Answer this question
A: Yes that works but with the XL it will be wider than the truck bed
Answered by Tucker from Logan, UT on 06/28/2021
A: It's not common but can be done. You will need to make measurements of the tent as the XL will overhang the sides of the cab. The cab rack that you will use is also be important to the static weight and max weight capacity. It's also good to have a bed rack where the other half of the tent can rest on. This will relieve any angle strain on the ladder depending the length of the truck bed. I also use the 75 degree angle rule for the ladder. The tent mounting brackets can be moved and would require you to drill new holes.

A: Yes. It will require a bed mounting rack and will require the rails on the tent to be mounted perpendicular to normal.
